We collaborate with local communities, government, and NGOs for inclusive, sustainable development.

“A sign of God’s love for all creation in Jesus Christ.”
Our Mission
Rooted in the Gospel and Catholic Social Teaching, Caritas Malaysia is dedicated to upholding the dignity of every human person and promoting social justice.
We address the causes of poverty, violence, and inequality, and respond to humanitarian crises with compassion and care. By empowering and equipping our members and all people of goodwill, we act in solidarity with the marginalized and creation ensuring responsible stewardship of the environment for the common good.
Our Team & Governance
Our Team & Governance – Caritas Malaysia is led by the Bishop President and National Director, supported by a national team, a Board serving fixed terms of years, and representatives from nine diocesan Caritas offices. This shared governance ensures collaboration, accountability, and alignment with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia (CBCM), while keeping our mission rooted in local communities
our values
Being
Our spirituality shapes who we are and how we serve. It is grounded in three guiding principles:
Sanctity (Matthew 5:48; Lumen Gentium, Ch. V)
All are called to holiness. We seek to follow Christ’s footsteps, dedicating our whole lives to the glory of God and the service of neighbour. Sanctity means striving for the fullness of Christian life and the perfection of charity.
Synodality (John 14:6; Isaiah 54:2)
Christ is “the way, the truth, and the life.” Walking together as Church, we commit to enlarging our tent — listening, discerning, and acting as one. Synodality is the Caritas way: Encounter, Listening, Discernment, and Action.
Solidarity (Luke 4:16–18; Matthew 25:40)
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these… you did for me.” Solidarity is love in action — recognising the divine presence in every person. We are called to stand with the poor, speak truth, and be a healing presence in a troubled world.
Doing
Our work is guided by three core principles of Catholic Social Teaching that shape how we act:
Subsidiarity
Empowerment begins at the ground level. We ensure decisions are made as close as possible to the people affected, giving every person and community a voice in shaping their future.
Common Good
We work for the good of all, respecting the rights and dignity of every person. True development must serve not just a few, but the whole community and creation.
Co-responsibility
Laity, religious, and clergy — local, diocesan, and national — share one mission: to serve the poor and marginalized and build a just and peaceful society. Together, we embody the social mission of the Church.
OUR NETWORK
Caritas Malaysia is part of Caritas Internationalis, a global confederation of 162 Catholic and independent national organizations active in over 200 countries and territories. At the regional level, Caritas Malaysia is also a member of Caritas Asia, which brings together 25 national Caritas organisations across the continent.
